MMORPGs rely on users interacting in a virtual world, also known as a computer-based simulated environment. Here they can select and alter two or three-dimensional graphical character representations. These characters are known as avatars.

With the introduction of the internet, MMORPGs ( sometimes known as MMOGs ) have been able to proliferate. The more advanced platforms are complemented by video and synchronous communication between users and teams of multi-players in a range of settings.
