A wiki has many features which on first glance seem obvious however in a teaching and learning context a wiki has advantages over other softwares such as:

• when the server goes down and you cant reach your institutions or organisations intranet drive your wiki is always accessible
• a wiki is free ( to begin with)
• your wiki can be your "to do" journal only - it can inform your daily duties not replicate them
• a wiki is extensible and easily linked to
• navigation is both accessible and comprehensive for site impaired readers
• students generally understand the layout context and can navigate through content with ease
• a spirit of collaboration in building a wiki environment can flow onto other aspects of the curriculum
• content can be easily loaded or deleted
• a wiki can be integrated with other software packages easily and with little fall out of content or features
