Students often find it difficult to contemplate the ability to write freely in an open space - most escpecially when the writing is conducted in a collaborative process with a record of their contributions.

Some technologically averse students will even find the simple nature of wiki development too challenging however, with encouragement most students are able to develop as sense of responsibility to their postings.

• watching and interacting with a wicki with a classmate
• observing the development of a teachers wiki
• interacting within a community wiki
• experimenting with their own web wiki space without the need to undertake tasks to begin with
