Teachers can use wiki's to facilitate teaching and learning in many ways.
A teacher can engage students in a range of tasks and upload content which can guide the learning experience. Teachers use wikis to provide access to:
- links leading to course content
- online writing spaces to debate topics or collaboratively explore concepts
- discussion forums which accompany the wiki space
- a foundation for journal writing and peer review
- support that best suits the learning experience
When teachers introduce a student or other colleagues to a wiki they must take into account the following considerations;
- many people find it difficult to conceptualise the wiki space and how it operates in a competitive working environment
- wikis have a disruptive element to tradional views on copyright and intellectual property
- wikis are limited in their ability to accomodate more complex tasks
- wikis are public spaces essentially - to gain a private space cost money and this can be an issue for those seeking privacy
