A wiki is essentially a website. It can also be described as an online writing space without the need to know anything about HTML. This website is a space designed for individual use only or in most cases is enabled for collaborative editing. A wiki can have many pages linked from a main index page. Wikis have been in existence since 1995. To begin with wikis were designed to provide others with a space to build collective knowledge however in the late 2000's many enterprises and business have used this collaborative webspace idea for other purposes. The difference in types of wikis gives eduactors a great range of choice and provides the opportunity for teachers and students to make choices over which collaborative spaces may suit their specific purpose.
