A key factor of difference between a regular website and a blog is the maintenance that is required due to it's interactive format. Teachers must be mindful that students are generally interested in blogs provided that the content is not static and that the posts or blog entries point them to interesting information or contain an element of interaction. Blogs are also maintenance rich - a regular review of all content being posted must be adhered to to ensure continuity and order. Blogs by virtue of their structure invite readers to follow strings or threads of conversation and without proper scutiny, entrie may contain misquotes and mistruths. Blogging is an art that many educators develop over a period of time and the uptake of students of the blogging format is very different to that of regular classroom tasks or assessment. Students often post and then sit and wait for others to interact. The trick is in educators understanding how to integrate the platform of blogging into the regular, everyday process of creation in a daily setting. |
