Many online software providers offer access to free blogs or online journals.

The most popular blogging communities contain an easy three-step setup. There are many differing types of blogs with differing focus areas including;

Personal Blog - a diary or journal-type blog which is often the starting point for students and teachers alike. These blogs may contain class notes, timetables, anecdotes, daily summaries or musings on topics of interest.

Community Blog - a collaborative workspace where a few or many people can contribute to the content which is built in the blog space.

Business Blog - blogs that offer products and services often saturated with links to products or indeed constructed to showcase the latest products on offer. Teachers may find these handy when locating products or services for teaching and learning.

Organisational Blog - employees of large or even small organisations may be employed as part of their duties to maintain a blog. These blogs may be provided by the organisation as an internal ( intranet) feature or may indeed be online ( web) based.

Professional Blogs - people who are employed to solely purpose their work activities in a blog style. An example of this type of blog may be a journalist blog which supplements a news syndication site.
